Mulcahy Construction was hired by the health board to carry out enabling works at St Otterans hospital Waterford. The work consisted of demolition of old boiler room building around a listed brick chimney and re-pointing of chimney and new cap and reinforced band.
The project consisted of conservation and restoration works to a 19th century, 28 metre high octagonal brick chimney structure and switch / generator building (which are protected structures) to the approval of the conservation officer. The electrical works required handling of high electrical content within a live hospital environment. These significant restoration works included the removal of existing roof structure; waterproofing and blocking up existing openings whilst maintaining appearance as requested by conservation architect.
